Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dedicated to the health of women

Annual exams

We advise that parents bring their teens for a visit from age 13-16 to review pubertal changes and screen for gynecologic problems. Girls/women with no gynecologic issues can delay routine gynecologic exams to age 21 or three years after any sexual contact. Most females will have a reason to initiate regular care with a gynecologist before that time. These reasons may include:

  • Questions about normal development
  • Menstrual issues
  • Questions regarding sex or sex infections
  • Birth control

Birth control

The doctors at Centegra Primary Care are able to advise women about all forms of birth control and offer the most currently available methods. Many woman are not aware of all the options they have. Ask your doctor about cyclic hormones, including pills, patches and rings. Methods that reduce or eliminate menstrual cycles also exist, including the above, shots, implants under the skin and IUDs (placed in the uterus). We also offer female sterilization and can offer guidance about male sterilization.

Gynecologic disorders

We evaluate and treat a broad range of gynecologic problems. We can assist with management of problematic menstrual bleeding, monitor fibroids, treat sexual infections and abnormal Pap smears. You can find the help you need to determine why you have pain in your abdomen or pelvis, and treat conditions such as interstitial cystitis and endometriosis. Our doctors welcome questions regarding difficult to discuss issues, such as questions regarding sexual function, fertility or incontinence (loss of control of the bladder).

Menopause

Menopause technically starts a year after the last menstrual bleeding. Most women get to that time with minimal disruption of their lives. However, a significant fraction of woman have symptoms that make their lives less enjoyable and may be a sign of other problems. If you are one of these women, you may benefit from consultation with a gynecologist. Problems include:

  • Heavy or prolonged bleeding
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Moodiness
  • Sleep problems

We can help you evaluate and manage these symptoms to improve the quality of your life.

Complete care during pregnancy, labor and delivery

Our team of doctors are trained in the management of routine and complicated pregnancies. We can help you plan a healthy pregnancy, then take care of you from the time you find out you are pregnant, to the time that little one comes on the scene! We will assist you through a normal labor and delivery at Centegra Hospital - Woodstock or Centegra Hospital - McHenry. There is a labor anesthesia available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And this same well qualified team will help with an operative delivery if that is the safest option for you and your baby. (Or babies!)
